WEBINAR 1: Dr Lisa Oakley on Spiritual Abuse

Lisa will cover
- current thinking on Spiritual Abuse, from her research and work with safeguarding in church contexts in the United Kingdom
- examples of the spectrum of behaviour in church leadership, from healthy to unhealthy to abusive
- how to assess for known risk factors in ministry assessment contexts, including opportunities to put knowledge into practice during the webinar
These webinars are designed for people conducting psychological assessments for clergy, church planting, missionary and ministry workers, but are open to psychologists who work therapeutically with ministry workers.
Presenter: Professor Lisa Oakley, Clinical Psychologist
Lisa is professor of safeguarding and knowledge exchange at the University of Chester in the UK. She is a chartered psychologist and chair of the British psychological society safeguarding advisory group. Lisa has conducted research into issues of faith, safeguarding and abuse for the past 24 years and has focused on spiritual abuse, she has co-authored a number of articles, books and book chapters on these topics. Lisa has presented on these topics nationally and internationally.

WEBINAR 2: Dr Grant Bickerton on Ministry Wellbeing
Tuesday 15th September, 2-3:30 pm ONLINE
Grant will
- explore how to assess individual wellbeing and risk factors such as personality facets, spiritual resources, religious coping and mental health.
- Unpack how the PAI, NEO, PDS and YSQ provide important foci for questions about functioning in ministry contexts, including case studies.
These webinars are designed for people conducting psychological assessments for clergy, church planting, missionary and ministry workers, but are open to psychologists who work therapeutically with ministry workers.
Presenter: Dr Grant Bickerton (PhD, MPsych (Couns) is a senior psychologist working in private practice at Solid Rock Psychology, with 25 years of full-time Christian ministry experience across Australia and the Middle East. Over the past 15 years, he has specialised in the psychological assessment and occupational well-being of ministry candidates. A widely published researcher in the psychology of religion, Grant’s work integrates occupational factors, individual psychological characteristics, and spiritual variables that relate to well-being and distress in ministry. He has taught doctoral-level courses on well-being at Ridley College and Eastern University, blending clinical practice with empirical research.
